Lobster Dash

The Lobster Dash is a gorgeous race on the packed sand of Ogunquit Beach in Maine. You run for five miles on the most wonderful surface you can imagine, as waves roll in and the sky looks up at you from a reflection underfoot. After the race you get the best possible post-race food: a lobster roll!

St. Anne’s Lakes Race

The St. Anne’s Lakes Race is a beautiful road race along rolling (but never steep) roads in the southern New Hampshire town of Hampstead. I ran these 5 miles barefoot (my longest distance ever running without shoes)…and enjoyed every step of the way. This is New Hampshire, after all, where roads are always smooth and well-maintained (certainly compared to those in the Boston area!) But part of this course had been recently resurfaced, so it was like running on silk. Just a joyful experience for my bare feet.

Another treat was the post-race experience: great hummus sandwiches, water, and other refreshments!

Joan’s Jaunt

Here are photos I took as I ran the 2009 Joan’s Jaunt in Woburn, MA.

The 5 mile course is flat and scenic, winding past Horn Pond on dirt and asphalt trails before finishing up on the road with (oops!) a 2-block-long hill that makes you climb to the finish line.

I ran with a camera, and took pictures as I ran. (Yes, I took photos as I ran. I didn’t stop or slow down. After all, I was in a race!) Cape Ann Backshore Road Race

Here are photos I took while running the 2009 Backshore Road Race in Gloucester, MA.

The 5 mile course is flat and scenic, going out and back along the ocean.
