Jack Kerouac 5K

The Jack Kerouac 5K in Lowell, MA is an out-and-back that is all uphill for the first mile and half…but then of course it is all downhill to the finish. After the race there is hot soup, cold beer, and live music. What more could a runner want?

(Oh! If you run barefoot, as I do, you’d want smooth roads free of gravel, acorns, and other debris. This race fills the bill. Ideal for a barefooter like me!)

EHS Kick’n into Gear 5K

The Exeter High School Kick’n Into Gear 5K is more than a race; it’s a celebration.

As a race it’s everything you’d want in a 5K, with a blazingly fast course that finishes on the high school track–where cheers from the grandstand urge you to hit a higher gear as you kick it in to the clock.

But it feels like a celebration, with alumni and teachers and coaches running amidst current members of the EHS track team. John Parker, captain of the 1949 EHS track team finished strong and looked ready to run another 5K!

Lone Gull 10K

The Lone Gull 10K is exactly what you might imagine when you envision a race along the New England Coast. Nearly 700 runners race through the salt air, past an expanse of blue ocean and white spray…and then sit down to a hearty breakfast.

After the race and the breakfast…be sure to hang out to enjoy some late-summer rays and surf at Good harbor Beach!

Fast Tracks for Africa 5K

The Fast Tracks for Africa 5K is low-key race along the Charles River in Cambridge and Boston. Organized by the Harvard College Alliance for Africa, it raises money to help kids in Africa go to school.

Harvard evolutionary biologist Dan Lieberman (who was introduced to much of the world through Christopher McDougall’s best-seller, Born to Run) has invited Boston-area barefoot runners to join the Harvard community in this race. So this race features a mix of shod and barefoot runners.

Emarc 5K

The Emarc 5K is part of a series of road races in the Boston area sponsored by Marathon Sports, a small chain of running stores that has been advising and outfitting local runners for decades. The Emarc 5K brings out runners of all abilities, to run along the gently rolling streets of Melrose, MA.

Today the air is cool and the sky dark…reminding us that Autumn is almost here.
